Green Computing 2

Our computers have opened a new vista of communication for us. They connect us to any place and at any time as per our requirements. The world has indeed become a smaller place now that space-time itself is being reduced to a point. But excessive dependency on machines to do our work is doing no good to the environment. Millions and millions of computers worldwide are emitting green house gases and other toxic materials that are doing much harm to the ozone layer in our atmosphere and the environment in general. Moreover, like other electronic gadgets, computers, servers and other related hardware too become outdated in no time. These results in piling up of e-waste and other harmful toxic substances that are non-biodegradable. Typically computers consume more energy than is necessary for the scale of work they do. If one checks the ‘output level’ of a CPU, invariably one would find figures such as 1 percent or even less. The need of the hour is environment friendly IT and computer infrastructure that is more sustainable and cost effective.

It is here that the concept of cloud hosting different from regular web hosting. It is sold on demand and charged by the minute or the hour. An end user needn’t worry about the service as it is fully managed by the service provider. All one needs is a computer and an Internet connection. A user can have as much or as little access to the service as per his or her requirements. can be public, that is selling services to anyone on the Internet or private, which is a data center that caters to specific users.

Reducing the number of hardware. It also reduces carbon dioxide emissions and conserves energy which is the primary objective of green computing.
