Data Centre Facility Fact Sheet - The Intellicentre

in Managed ServersDedicated ServerData Center

Data Centre facility at ISO standard

Intellicentre has attained ISO 27001 security standard. This means it is built to a standard higher than AS2834. DSD Highly Protected ASIO T4.  The facility has other features:

  • To ensure that facility meets contemporary certifications a number are listed herein: these certifications (vendors and third party) include: PCI DSS, SAI Global - ISO 27001:2005, Microsoft Gold Partner, VMware Authorised Hosting Provider, RedHat Enterprise Hosting Partner and SunTone.
  • Green Grid Member, a consortium of information technology companies that seek to reduce power consumption and improve efficiency in data centres worldwide.
  • High level interfaces to Fire control system, power system, UPS, CRACs, access control, etc. delivered via Siemens Landis and taefa Network Monitoring System

Data Network Facility Connections

A variety of connectivity options including Private IP, Frame Relay, Ethernet, ICON, ISDN, Internet, ADSL2+ and SHDSL is offered by the Macquarie Telecom's nationwide data network offers. The facility and its telecommunications are provided by multiple carriers, all-active and BGP routed.  Being a substantial network, Macquarie Telecom uses its own network, Optus, AAPT and PIPE Networks for Internet routing with in excess of seven telecoms providers terminating in the facility. Capacity planning is managed by dedicated roles within the Macquarie Telecoms facility. Internet access is via multiple Gigabit connections.  Macquarie Telecom has a policy of not placing restrictions on carriers currently not servicing the facility.

The facility provides for multiple entry points per telecommunications carrier into the facility. Offering redundancy and growth capabilities, the telecommunications services are also provisioned for Internet access, backend connection, WAN and more. The facility has been fitted with two separate secure risers for redundancy; one is for Macquarie Telecom’ own, private use.

Data Network Peering

As an enterprise, Macquarie Telecom peer with multiple Internet carriers such as:

AAPT
Optus
PIPE Networks
Google

Data Centre Scalability

With burgeoning demand for data globally, the data centre facility has been built with scalability in mind. A full Two floors have been custom-built with provision and options on four additional floors. In its design the facility has the capacity in its existing cooling towers and UPS power supplies to support two additional floors.

Test procedures and frequency

The entire facility is tested regularly. A full test is conducted on a monthly basis. The testing, outsourced, includes established procedures and detailed reporting methods.
The date centre facility - Intellicentre - has been equipped with monitored alarm systems that are operational 24/7. The monitoring includes including local and remote alarms for all fire and UPS services and security surveillance.

Detailed SLAs and SLGs are in place

In order to offer the highest level of transparency, Macquarie Telecom offers strict Service Level Guarantees (and Service Level Agreements) with rebates for underperformance.

Air conditioning

Each of 25 Liebert Precision Cooling units is equipped with 75kw heat rejection.
To ensure 100% availability of capacity, each of the units are at N + 1 redundancy, with one or more spare in case of failure.
Dual redundant cooling towers, heat exchangers, dual redundant cooling pumps, are present.

Fire protection

Multi-point aspirated Cerebrus smoke detection with VESDA
Main fire suppression) system: FM 200.
Portable fire extinguishers.
Sprinklers of the dry pipe pre-action variety are installed as last resort.

Security

Main data centre has mantraps with hand-scanners
Entry doors are accessed by codes and proximity card .
All door are monitoring as are riser cupboards, plant rooms, etc.
Full CCTV with motion detection and fixed cameras with digital recording capability and HDD archive.
In addition, web cameras available upon request.

Electricity supply

The building has three separate power grid transformers. One is connected on a permanent basis with the  other two available on demand.
The facility is able to maintain full operations in the event of an interruption to all external electrical supplies. In order to provide this assurance, this feature is fully tested every 6 months

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Macquarie Telecom  is the owner and the operator of 3 x 500 kva UPSs with expandability to an additional two units. These UPSs are continuously online and have the capability of 15 minutes of full autonomy on batteries. Power to the data facility is fed through the UPSs
All 500 batteries, with five separate strings are on a battery monitoring system
The facility has fail-over arrangements for electrical supply operate automatically in the event of total or partial interruption to external supplies as online UPS technology is used.
Intellicentre’s power services will ultimately be supplied by the back up generators within three minutes of a mains power supply outage.

Diesel generators

The operator, Macquarie Telecom owns 2 x 1675 kva Cummins diesel generators for the Intellicentre computer rooms. Each of the generators is currently operating at 50% capacity. In order to increase life expectancy, the generators are run up regularly to cycle fuel.
Oil pre-heaters are present in each generator sump, which constantly keeps the generators in a state of readiness.
Dedicated back up diesel generators will automatically start in the event of a sustained 3 second outage occur on the utility mains supply.
These generators are designed to run continuously for 72 hours on the minimum maintained bulk fuel supply tank of 70%. A warning alarm is triggered when a fuel level of below 70% is reached. This alarm is at the Macquarie Telecom Network Management System.
Macquarie Telecom has contractual arrangements with diesel suppliers to ensure that the 40,000 litre bulk tank is filled routinely or upon demand should an extended outage be apparent.
